December 13th, 2007: Sen. Margett Visits Children For Third Year

Sen. Bob Margett (R-Glendora) will deliver holiday gifts and meet with 125 children enrolled in the Haynes Education Center on Thursday, December 13, in his third annual breakfast meeting with the children of the LeRoy Haynes Center in La Verne.

Margett, who will be assisted by officers of the California Highway Patrol, also is expected to convene an informal open forum with the children – both boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 18 – to hear their concerns and suggestions. The students will represent academic levels including elementary, middle and high school grades.

Daniel Maydeck, new President and CEO at LeRoy Haynes Center

Veteran special education and “special needs” administrator Daniel Maydeck, appointed early this year to take over the helm as President and CEO at The LeRoy Haynes Center in La Verne, has been selected by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to serve as a member of the Commission’s Special Education Credential Workgroup.

As a member of the Workgroup, he is charged with reviewing the current special education credential structure and providing guidance for recommended modifications to all special education credentials.

Maydeck was chosen for the panel because he was “representative of the diverse group of California educators, parents, and/or representative of educational organizations who are all stakeholders in the credentialing system for special education teachers and ‘other related services’ providers,” said Dale A. Janssen, Executive Director of the Commission.

The Workgroup meets monthly in Sacramento under the direction of the Commission and its staff to assure credentialing practices reflect both current state policy and practice in special education.

A report from the Workgroup will be presented to the Commission at its October 2007 meeting and to the state legislature by December 1.

Maydeck has more than 20 years experience working with special needs children and more than 26 years experience in senior management positions. Prior to joining LeRoy Haynes Center, he served as President and CEO of the Kayne ERAS Center in Culver City where he orchestrated a number of successful program expansions.

He is an executive board member of the California Association of Special Education Schools, a member of the California Alliance for Children and Family Services and is a member of the National Association of Private Special Education Schools.
