In-home Behavioral Services

Haynes Family of Program S.T.A.R. Academy offers in-home behavior services that rely on naturalistic and evidence-based practices, which include applied behavior analysis (ABA); pivotal response treatment (PRT), and parent training and education. We recognize that each child is unique and has his/her own strengths and abilities therefore we individualize each program to address the unique needs of the client.

Common skill areas targeted include behavioral regulation, communication skills, social skills, self-help skills, self-management skills, and play skills. Each in-home behavior session is a fun and motivating time of “play with a purpose” as we use toys, games, and activities to teach essential skill areas.

What is PRT?

Pivotal response training is a research based intervention model based on the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA). It was developed by Robert L. Koegel and Lynn Kern Koegel at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in conjunction with Laura Schreibman at the University of California, San Diego. PRT targets “pivotal” areas such as motivation, responsiveness to multiple cues, self-regulation, and social initiation. By targeting these areas, widespread positive effects are observed on many other behaviors associated with social interaction, language, and play.

Parent Training:

Parent training is central to each program we develop at S.T.A.R. Academy’s in-home program. We recognize the powerful role that parents play in their child’s life. Our parent training serves to teach the parent how to decrease challenging behaviors in the home as well as support their child in the development of essential skills.
Parent training is critical for the generalizing the skills introduced during behavior therapy in addition to ensuring the maintenance of the gains made during therapy sessions.
